Micro-encapsulation
means placing of liquid, gaseous, and solid substances into capsules of micro dimensions. The aims of this technology are rather varied. Micro-encapsulation permits to prevent the contact of active substance (filler of a capsule) with the environment and/or, if necessary, with other active substances. In addition, micro-encapsulation facilitates the handling of a substance as the latter is able to change its state. For example, a gas or a liquid can pass into a free-flowing powder-like substances. Finally, encapsulation of a substance allow to control the rate of its outflow into the external space by changing permeability of capsule's wall to the encapsulated substance.
Which are the merits of these features?
Let us consider two examples. First, the handling of a toxic detergent for dry-cleaning. Its spilling is harmful for environment and leads to punitive measures against persons who owns or handles the detergent. A spill of encapsulated detergent is easy to liquidate and its harmful effect is close to zero.
Second, the high-quality perfumes promotion. Being micro-encapsulated, such perfumes can be added to printing ink intended for promotional products. In addition to visual attractiveness of a printed image, it will attract a reader by its fragrance for many months and even years.
What have we done?
After gaining valuable expertise thanks to experimenting in encapsulation of various substances, ranging from insecticides to biologically active food additives, we have focused on treatment of fire-retardants. So, currently we own a number of "know-how":
- micro-capsulated fire retardant;
- plasticizer that is able to cement the micro-capsulated fire retardant without getting in the way of its outflow caused by heating;
- original composition of fire retardants advantageous in improved fire quenching capacity as compared to similar products available on the market.
Being brought together, these "know-how" allowed us to put on the market a new product: the automated fire extinguisher, or AFE. |
